The Fast Experiment

December 4, 2008

Well we’re about half way through The Fast Experiment and we have had at least one person if not two or three fasting every day. That’s an incredible thought. For the last two weeks young adults have been fasting and praying and giving for the sake of change. I believe that placing this type of focus on the need for change, whether personal, spiritual, social, etc. is important.

It’s all to easy to just go through the motions or simply accept our current state as the only possible reality. I admit being just as guilty as the next of doing just that, and that’s why taking some time to dial in on the need for change and our ability to create change is so important.

It’s going to be fun to hear some of the stories that come from this month of fasts, prayers and financial gifts.

I truly believe God will use this to lay the foundation for a ministry that creates change.

Enjoying The Connection

October 30, 2008

There are a lot of great things about The Crossing. It’s a place to grow, a place to start and/or deepen your walk with Christ, but it’s also a place to connect. It is no means a place just to connect, but it create opportunities to get to know others.

Over the last week or so, there have been some awesome connection points and it has been incredible talking with some of the Crossing folk. They all have such different stories, and backgrounds. Their perspectives on church and life vary, but they all are excited to connect. It is obvious that we have been created to do life together and it’s going to be fun to watch that happen within the context of The Crossing.

Wednesday’s Gathering

October 21, 2008

This last Wednesday we had a great time of worship at The Crossing Gathering. With over 50 people coming together to do nothing more than connect with each other and with God, it’s pretty awesome watching this ministry touch lives.

Launch!

October 13, 2008

Vicky and I finished our group’s first meeting tonight. It is so encouraging to see how willing we are to open up with others when we’re given a constructive, safe, environment in which to communicate.

Four of our members shared their personal stories. And I appreciate this. For some, getting personal takes courage, for others it really isn’t that taxing. But the cool thing to watch is the openness that comes almost immediately afterward. It’s almost like defenses are lowered and forgotten about once the first couple stories are shared. Community and relation, relevance and trust.

I’m thoroughly encouraged by our group. Every single member in this group has a positive attitude, and most seem incredibly willing to be real with the rest of us. That’s really going to make things more accomodating.

I am anxious to see where this group takes each of our members! I can speak directly about one of our members already, and the growth that’s imminent. It’s very exciting and encouraging!

I am certainly greatful for the environment we’ve been given, as well as the unique design of our group, being co-ed. I really think that aspect will actually foster improved growth, conviction, pursuit, and change.

Getting Things Going

October 10, 2008

It’s exciting to start something new. There is a general sense of anticipation for things to come, and the thought of what could be is exhilarating. The Crossing has generated those exact feelings within not only myself but the young adult community at New Life.

As this excitement grows and God uses this ministry to reach the surrounding community it is my desire to share all of that with you through this blog. This will be a place for a variety of people who are involved in making The Crossing happen to share what God is doing in their lives and the life of the ministry.

We’re in for a wild ride so get ready to hear about it.
